Manny coming home despite WHO's and DOH's advisories

MANILA, Philippines -- World boxing champion Manny Pacquiao and his entourage will be back in Manila Friday as scheduled, contrary to the advice of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Department of Health (DOH).

In a phone patched interview, Pacquiao, who beat Ricky Hatton for the light welterweight crown in Las Vegas, Nevada over the weekend, said he was on his way to the airport.

Pacquiao, now considered a boxing legend after his masterful defeat of Hatton whom he knocked out in the second round, was advised by the Philippine government to postpone his return until he and his team could be declared safe from the swine flu virus that has spread worldwide.

Celebrations in Manila, including a courtesy call to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, have been cancelled.

One person was found to have been infected with the deadly strain in Texas, prompting authorities here to request Pacquiao to extend his stay in the US.

Over 100 people were reported to have been infected worldwide.
